Every day as I walk down our hallway, I'm reminded that a map can tell you where you've been—but it can't tell you the stories of what mattered most.
The pushpins show the places.
The photographs remind me of the moments.
To celebrate our retirement, Craig and I packed two suitcases, locked the front door, and set off on an 89-day journey around the world.
At the time, we had no idea how much the journey would change us.
People often ask us what our favorite place was.
It's a fair question—but an impossible one.
Every place we visited gave us at least one unforgettable moment. Most gave us many.
Sometimes it was the breathtaking beauty of nature.
Sometimes it was the brilliance of something people had built hundreds—or even thousands—of years before.
Sometimes it was a conversation with someone we'd just met who somehow made us feel at home halfway around the world.
And sometimes it was simply sharing laughter with new friends, despite not speaking the same language.
It turns out, smiles and laughter are a universal language.
When I think back on those 89 days, I don't remember days, I remember moments.
